NMSKCC

The National Mission on Strategic Knowledge for Climate Change (NMSKCC) operates under India’s National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) to enhance understanding and action on climate change. It was launched in 2010 with the goal of building a strong and vibrant knowledge system on climate change to support India’s efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change.
NMSKCC focuses on four key aspects:

Knowledge Generation: Supporting research in climate science, adaptation, and mitigation while advocating data-driven decisions.

Knowledge Networking: Building collaborations among scientists, policymakers, and stakeholders to share expertise and consensus on climate issues.

Capacity Building: Empowering individuals with tailored training to address climate complexities effectively.

Public Awareness: Raising awareness and promoting sustainable practices and technologies.

Here are some of the specific activities that the NMSKCC is undertaking:

  • Funding research projects on climate change science, adaptation, and mitigation.
  • Organizing workshops and conferences to bring scientists, policymakers, and other stakeholders together to share information and expertise.
  • Developing and disseminating climate information and services for decision-making.
  • Providing training and capacity-building programs for scientists, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
  • Raising public awareness about climate change and its impacts.
  • Promoting climate-friendly practices and technologies.

The NMSKCC is a collaborative effort involving various stakeholders, including government agencies, academic institutions, research organizations, and non-governmental organizations. It is an important part of India’s efforts to build a sustainable future in the face of climate change.
